Description

This essay contains thoughts on three important areas:
What Does God Want Me To Do? Measure Your Christian Effectiveness. Message for Unbelievers

What Does God Want Me To Do?
What God wants you to do should be taken seriously. Some “wants” we can apply without too much effort or burden. Tasks like praying and rejoicing. Some of God's wants are things not to do, like “don't commit murder.” I can honestly say, “ I've never been accused of that, literally or figuratively. However, the rest of the Ten Commandments I've, shamefully, pretty well trashed.”
Measure Your Christian Effectiveness
Without goals, some Christians can become stagnated and ineffectively mired on a daily basis. We can never measure spiritual transformations in another person’s life. It is not for us to measure the perceived or unperceived Christian merits and actions of other human beings. To endeavor to do so would be ludicrous.
Nevertheless, there are biblical passages that reveal the sin of slothfulness but, Praise the Lord, there are many biblical messages that can lead us toward greater spiritual maturity. As an old saying goes, “What gets measured can be improved,” but how can we measure genuine Christian effectiveness? When growth is sought without a means of verifying success, that can end in temporary abandonment, or worse, permanent defeat. What are our responsibilities to the Christian goals of Jesus, individually inwardly, as well as, outwardly? We all should know our primary duties are to praise the Lord, become more like Jesus, and then go forth and make disciples.
Message for Unbelievers
The road to being a Believer is smooth for only a few souls. More often it is a rocky route where persons stumble and fall. Before and after being saved. My first piece of advice might seem strange. Forgive yourself.
We even have to forgive hypocrites, for there are many not only within every church but often within our own set of relatives, as well. Then you can begin to forgive all sinners, for we all sin. To do so, we should release all our inward bitterness as directed by Ephesians 4 verse 31. “Get rid of all bitterness, rage, anger, brawling, and slander, along with every form of malice.”
But you may argue and say: “Brother, you don’t know me, you don't know how I’ve been hurt. You don’t know what was done to me….” You're right, I don't know. I've not walked the paths of your life nor faced the exact troubles you've been subjected to. But you need to ask; “How did Jesus respond as he was crucified?” The Bible tells us He could have dispatched legions of angels to save himself, or used His supernatural powers to strike his enemies dead. But Jesus didn’t, did he? He simply requested, “Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do.” A simple message we all should echo in times of pain and strife.
